A space to feel sound, and to be heard.
For questions or appointments
When there is a physical problem with our body, we go to a doctor for a cure. Emotional issues are too often kept bottled up inside us, in the hope that they will go away on their own.
They do not. They start festering, affecting our mental, emotional, and eventually physical wellbeing. In today's day and age, where we struggle to find time to care for ourselves, it is only too easy to feel the weight of everyday stresses growing heavier and heavier.
There is a solution for this. The Hearing Touch.
Meherangiz Contractor.
The brainchild of Meherangiz Contractor, known to most as Meher, The Hearing Touch is a soothing, calming, homely place where you can lighten your mental burden. Meher uses the effect vibrations have on our body through sound.
Studies show that the connection between sound and touch runs deep within all of us. Both hearing and touch, researchers found, depend on nerves set atwitter by vibration. A mobile phone set to vibrate can be detected by the skin of the hand, and the telephone's ringtone produces sound waves, vibrations of air, that move the eardrum.
The Hearing Touch creates a space where one can have a healing synesthesiac experience. The beauty and calmness of the neurological condition that allows you to feel sound.
Meher completed her Masters in Psychology from the University of Pune, scoring a perfect A+ grade to top the University that year. A former professor of Psychology at N. Wadia College and Fergusson College, she has a natural flair for empathy and patient listening while giving simple and practical solutions. Her experience as a trained psychologist led her to create The Hearing Touch space because she recognised a need for it.
This endeavour's mission is to spread beauty and magic with the help of scientific discoveries made in order to better understand ourselves, and the way in which we have the ability to function.
A quiet method, carried out with care.
There is no fixed script for therapy. There is, however, a way we tend to work, that clients tell us makes the first conversation easier than they expected.
Listening, first.
The first session is mostly listening. There is nothing you must explain, nothing you must rehearse. We will follow your lead.
Recommending a path.
After a careful evaluation, we suggest the kind of therapy that will most likely meet you well. Counselling, CBT, family work, or something gentler.
Working in steady rhythm.
Most of the work happens between sessions, in the ordinary days. We help you take small, useful things into those days.
Reviewing, openly.
We talk regularly about how things are going. There is no pressure to stay longer than you need, and no awkwardness about leaving.
A few things people often ask.
Do I need to know what is wrong before I come in?
Not at all. Most people arrive with a vague sense that something is not quite right, and that is a perfectly good reason to begin. Finding the right words is part of the work.
How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?
A session usually runs for an hour. Frequency depends on what we are working on. Weekly is common at the start, easing to fortnightly or monthly as things settle.
Is everything we talk about kept private?
Yes. Confidentiality is the foundation of the work. The only exceptions are the standard professional ones, where there is a risk to your safety or the safety of others.
What does a first session cost?
The first session begins at Rs 1000. Subsequent sessions are discussed openly during your evaluation so there are no surprises.
Do you work with families and couples too?
Yes. We offer family counselling and relationship work alongside individual psychotherapy. It is common to begin with one and add the other as needed.
